Project name:

Scholarships for pupils in Binh Thuan Province

Project location:

Vietnam

Sub-focus area:

Education

Ham Tan District, where AES’ CCGT plant and LNG terminal will be located, is a low-income district in Binh Thuan Province facing many economic challenges. The number of low-income and disadvantaged households in the province remains high. According to local statistics, nearly 2,000 pupils and students from low-income households live in this area. Many of them are at risk of dropping out of school due to financial difficulties, while support from local authorities and organizations is often limited.

In November 2020, in cooperation with the Association for Promoting Education, AES Vietnam presented scholarships to 120 students in Son My Commune and Ham Tan District, Binh Thuan Province. The scholarships aim to support and encourage local students from low-income families to continue their education. The financial support provided can be used for tuition fees, uniforms, books and other school-related expenses.

AES is committed to supporting this educational initiative because we strongly believe that access to education for local students will empower local communities, contribute to improving living standards and ensure sustainable development in the area.

The initiative contributes to the realization of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 Quality education.

Impact:

120 local students received financial support. A higher level of participation from local students ensures improved literacy in the area and better quality of life among local communities.

Partners:

Association for Promoting Education in Ham Tan District and Son My Commune,  five high schools, nine Secondary schools and eight Primary schools in the province.
