At AES, a just and responsible transition starts with people - from those supporting the safe operations of our energy projects, our partners and customers that provide the vision, and most importantly, the individuals and families living in the communities that benefit from the solutions we deploy. We are committed to working with our stakeholders to foster just transitions and develop a transition plan designed with the local conditions in mind, that can include capacity building, social, and economic development opportunities.

In our 15-year journey, AES Vietnam has been committed to sustainable development, leading the transformation to greener and safer energy in the country while improving lives in local communities. Since 2015, AES through its subsidiaries have implemented various social impact programs focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure – which have a long-lasting impact and have benefited more than 200,000 people in local communities.

Our achievements in various social impact programs have enabled us to solidify our market position as a trusted partner in Vietnam and established a foundation for our sustainable growth across the country. We are proactively contributing to the transformation of Vietnam’s energy sector through our investment in the 450 TBtu Son My LNG terminal and the 2.2 GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant, which are located in Son My Commune, Ham Tan District, Binh Thuan Province. Moreover, our new product offerings in solar energy and battery energy storage in Vietnam are introduced with the aim to help local customers achieve a higher standard of clean energy and secure their sustainable energy future. Fluence – a Siemens and AES company, is manufacturing Fluence Cube, lithium-ion-based battery energy storage solutions (BESS) in Vietnam and nearly 2GW BESS have been exported worldwide and accelerating the green transition globally.

I am excited and optimistic about the future as we continue our sustainability journey and leveraging our shared Values in order to meet tomorrows challenges.

REDUCING OUR CARBON INTENSITY

2030
Portfolio generation carbon intensity aligned with a "well below 2°C" scenario.

Based on the growth of renewable energy and the viability of multiple possible asset scenarios. Sectoral Decarbonization Approach (SDA) target for power generation of 0.16 tCO2e/MWh, using the 2016 baseline and the portfolios modeled for 2030 as a reference.

(Achieved through asset sales, fuel conversion, and retirement of operations, while maintaining reliability and affordability, and subject to necessary approvals)

Net-zero carbon emissions from electricity sales.

Actions assume new policies that facilitate transition to low emissions energy systems, such as a price on carbon. Includes scope 1 and 2 emissions.
