AES Vietnam President Attends High-Level Government Meetings in Vietnam

March 27, 2024

The President of AES Vietnam Joseph Uddo participated in a series of high-level meetings with the Vietnamese government as part of the Vietnam Business Forum 2024 and Vietnam Business Mission 2024. The discussions, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and investment, underscore AES Vietnam’s commitment to supporting the nation’s energy sector and sustainable development goals.

Vietnam Business Forum 2024

The Vietnam Business Forum (VBF), a longstanding policy dialogue channel, has been instrumental in fostering a favorable business environment in Vietnam. This year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference to meet with foreign direct investment (FDI) companies to collaborate on ways to improve the business climate.

During the forum, Mr. Joseph Uddo, the AES Vietnam President, and Chairman of AmCham Vietnam engaged with top government representatives to explore collaborative opportunities in the power sector. He emphasized the paramount importance of stable energy supply for all businesses and future investors. Moreover, he advocated for collaborative approaches between public and private sectors to develop affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity, enhancing the nation's competitive edge. “We would like to see regulatory uncertainties eliminated and a renewed focus on approving projects in the short term that are realistic and bankable to ensure the country’s power supply meets the growing demand here,” he said.

Vietnam Business Mission 2024

The Vietnam Business Mission 2024, coinciding with the VBF, provided an additional platform for AES Vietnam to showcase its innovative solutions and reinforce its position as a leading investor in Vietnam’s energy infrastructure.

This year, from March 18 to 21, the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) led a delegation of senior executives from more than 50 leading US companies to Hanoi for its annual Business Mission to Vietnam, marking the largest delegation of US companies to Vietnam since the historic elevation of US and Vietnam bilateral relations to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

AES Vietnam President Joseph Uddo highlighted the significant opportunities in Vietnam, noting that the rapidly growing economy is leading to an increased demand for electricity and energy supply. “We are happy to be working closely with the Vietnamese government to ensure that investors have access to sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy to support the growth of the economy and meet Vietnam’s energy goals,” he added. He also emphasized the importance of accelerating the approval of key national energy projects, including AES Son My LNG project.
