AES Vietnam, in collaboration with the Centre for Education and Development (CED), awarded Future Energy Scholarships to 30 students majoring in electricity at five major Universities in Hanoi, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Energy Technology at Electric Power University, University of Science – Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Industry and Quang Ninh University of Industry.

The handover ceremony is part of an annual scholarship program implemented by AES since 2017 and is an effort by AES Vietnam to develop a highly skilled workforce for Vietnam’s energy sector, in the context of increasing demand for electricity in Vietnam.

Regarding the program, Mr. Joseph  Uddo, President, AES Vietnam, said, “AES' Future Energy Scholarship was created with the aim to find and encourage young talents in the energy sector. This is the 6th year the program has been implemented and I am very pleased to welcome two new partners, bringing a total of five universities participating in the program. I hope that the students taking part will have a meaningful time networking and gaining new knowledge and skills to get prepared for their future energy careers.”

The selected students will not only receive financial support but also benefit from soft skills training, career orientation via exchanges with energy experts, and a visit to Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant in Quang Ninh Province.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said, “We are delighted and appreciate the support from AES for students majoring in electricity and energy. The scholarship provides great encouragement for them to study harder and gives them the opportunity to improve soft skills that are important for their personal and career development in the future.”

Attending the award ceremony, representatives of AES Vietnam also answered questions from students about career opportunities in the energy industry and necessary skills when working in this field. Having been implemented over the last six years and supporting more than 100 students, the scholarship program has received strong support from university administrators and is continually attracting more interest from local students in Vietnam.
