    scholarship presentation ceremony

Binh Thuan - Today, in cooperation with the Association for Promoting Education, AES Vietnam presented scholarships to 120 students in Son My Commune and Ham Tan District, Binh Thuan Province. The award ceremony was organized with the attendance of representatives from local authorities, schools and the Association for Promoting Education in Ham Tan District.

The scholarships were provided in collaboration with the Association for Promoting Education of Ham Tan District and Son My Commune, aiming to motivate students to advance their studies and help to cover a part of their educational costs.

On behalf of the Association for Promoting Education of Ham Tan District, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chanh, Chairman, said, “For these meaningful gifts to pupils who come from disadvantaged families in the district, I would like to express our sincere thanks to AES Vietnam.”

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. David Stone, President of AES Vietnam, said, “At AES Vietnam, we are committed to supporting the educational initiatives because we strongly believe that education will empower local communities, contribute to improving living standards and ensure sustainable development. This year, it is our pleasure to work with the Association for Promoting Education of Ham Tan District to deliver this scholarship program. We expect to expand this program in the coming years to increase the number of beneficiaries so that more disadvantaged pupils will receive better support in the future.”

The scholarships are an important part of AES’s CSR program in Vietnam. Over the last 15 years, AES through its subsidiaries have implemented various CSR activities focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure – which have a long-lasting impact and have improved the lives of more than 200,000 people in local communities.

In October 2020, AES Vietnam and PV Gas inked a Term Sheet of the Joint Venture Agreement for the 450 TBtu Son My LNG terminal, which will be located in Son My Commune, Ham Tan District, Binh Thuan Province. Together with its previously announced 2.2 GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant which received approval from the Government of Vietnam on September 30, 2019, the CCGT and terminal are expected to bring approximately $3.2 billion in investment to the province and are expected to contribute significantly to the development of the local economy.

The AES Corporation is a Fortune 500 global power company and has extensive experience in developing LNG to power projects, including LNG terminals in the Dominican Republic in 2003 and in Panama in 2018, which have been providing cleaner, more cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions for the Caribbean and Central America.
